Edward Joseph Seitz

Edward Joseph Seitz, Diplomatic Security (DS) Special Agent and 16-year DS veteran, died on October 24, 2004, in a rocket attack in Baghdad, Iraq. In a statement to the media a few hours after his death, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said, “Ed’s death is a tragic loss for me personally, and for all of his colleagues at the Department of State. He died in the service of his country and for the cause of liberty and freedom for others.” In a message to DS employees, Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security Francis X. Taylor and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Joe Morton, Director of the Diplomatic Security Service, echoed the Secretary’s remarks. “Ed…epitomized the best of our bureau. He will be remembered as a man of enormous generosity–one who was always thinking of others first….We will all remember his honor, his courage, his dedication to duty, and his sacrifice.” From Cleveland, Ohio, Edward Seitz’s service with DS encompassed a wide area of responsibilities that included investigating terrorism cases following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
