Nina Maria Fite

Nina Maria Fite has served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in Global Talent Management bureau since November 10, 2021. She was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Angola on January 5, 2018, where she served until November 2021. Ambassador Fite previously served as the United States Consul General in Montreal, Canada from 2014 to 2017, and as Consul General in Lahore, Pakistan from 2011 to 2014.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Nina Maria Fite has spent more than 30 years focusing on trade, environmental issues, and post-conflict economic development. Her assignments include serving as the Deputy Economic Counselor in Kabul, Afghanistan and as the Political/Economic Section Chief in Luanda, Angola.

Ambassador Fite has worked on regional and bilateral environment, science and health issues while based in Budapest, Hungary and in the State Department’s Bureau of Oceans, Environment and Science. While on assignment with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, she negotiated the environmental chapters of the Dominican accession to the Central AmericanDominican Republic Free Trade Agreement and the U.S.-Panamanian Free Trade Agreement. She also served in Lisbon, Portugal and Kingston, Jamaica. Ambassador Fite has received numerous awards throughout her diplomatic career, including the 2019 Charles E. Cobb, Jr. Award for Initiative and Success in Trade Development.

A native Pennsylvanian, Ambassador Fite completed a Bachelor of Architecture at CarnegieMellon University and holds a Master’s in International Management from Thunderbird – The American Graduate School of International Management and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy at the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School. Ambassador Fite speaks Portuguese, French, Hungarian and Spanish.
