The United States has supported the government’s efforts to expand the country’s economic base and to provide a higher standard of living for its citizens. USAID’s Eastern Caribbean program has focused on promoting economic growth, combating HIV/AIDS, and protecting fragile ecosystems. Barbados receives counter-narcotics and youth development assistance from the United States under the regional Caribbean Basin U.S. assistance is channeled primarily through multilateral agencies such as the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This includes 270,000 Pfizer doses. Of the 270,000 vaccine doses, 100% were donated through bilateral agreements. The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
