Secretary Blinken’s Call with Mexican Foreign Secretary Ebrard

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke yesterday with Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard.  Secretary Blinken and Foreign Secretary Ebrard discussed U.S.-Mexico security cooperation and joint efforts to disrupt precursor chemicals used to make illicit fentanyl and other synthetic drugs.  The Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting our Mexican partners and protecting our communities from criminal networks, and stressed security cooperation remains a top priority.  They also spoke about the high-level U.S. delegation to Mexico led by White House Homeland Security Advisor Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, which focused on strengthening law enforcement and bolstering citizen security to disrupt the synthetic drug supply chain and reduce the risks of consuming synthetic drugs.

Secretary Blinken and Foreign Secretary Ebrard discussed the kidnapping of four U.S. citizens in Matamoros, which resulted in the deaths of two U.S. citizens and one Mexican citizen.
