CANDIDATE: David Reimer

David Reimer, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, is currently the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles. Prior to that, Ambassador Reimer held senior leadership positions as the Director of the Office of West African Affairs in the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State and he was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania. His extensive knowledge of Africa and his outstanding leadership skills, particularly in high-threat environments and within the interagency community, make him an excellent candidate to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Previously, Ambassador Reimer served as Assessor, Board of Examiners in the Bureau of Human Resources with the Department of State; Senior Refugee Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq; Deputy Director, Office of East African Affairs, at the Department of State; and as Refugee and Migration Officer at the U.S. Mission in Geneva, Switzerland. Ambassador Reimer also has considerable substantive experience in economic affairs, having held positions as an Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; an Economic Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Milan, Italy; a Financial Economist in the Office of Monetary Affairs at the Department of State; and an Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Bonn, Germany. In addition, he did long-term economic training at the Foreign Service Institute, Arlington, Virginia. Prior to joining the State Department, Ambassador Reimer worked for five years as an International Affairs Specialist in the Office of International Cooperation and Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Ambassador Reimer earned an M.P.I.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1985 and a B.A. from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana in 1984. He has received numerous senior State Department performance awards. His languages are French, Italian, and German.
