Food Security

According to the 2022 Global Report on Food Crisis, 193 million people were experiencing acute food insecurity in 2021 and 236 million people were at the cusp of acute hunger. The compounded impacts from a protracted global pandemic, growing pressures from the climate crisis, high energy and fertilizer prices, and expanded conflicts have disrupted supply chains and dramatically increased global food insecurity, especially for the most vulnerable. In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, AGP aids in mobilizing global actions to address rising food insecurity as outlined by Secretary Blinken in the May 18 Roadmap for Food Security – Call to Action. Together with the Office of Global Food Security and the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) AGP advances Feed the Future (FTF), the U.S. government’s global hunger and food security initiative, to combat acute food insecurity.
