Brett Pomainville serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Management Strategy and Solutions (M/SS), the State Department’s internal management policy, consulting, and data analytics capability.  In this role, he is focused on a variety of initiatives that are headlined in the Secretary’s modernization agenda to include global presence and agility, mobility and the Future of Work, risk management, data and analytics, optimization, and sustainability across the enterprise.  He provides executive direction to the three M/SS directorates: Policy and Global Presence (PGP), Center for Analytics (CfA), and Consulting and Advanced Projects (CAP).  Previously he served as Managing Director for the M/SS Policy and Global Presence directorate, as well as Acting Director.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor, Brett began his diplomatic career in 1995 and has served overseas in Argentina, Poland, Mexico, and Iraq.  Domestically, Brett served with the Bureau of Consular Affairs as Director of the Office of Fraud Prevention Programs, Division Chief in the Office of American Citizens Services, Congressional Liaison Officer, and Visa Security Advisory Officer.  He has also had assignments with the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, and the State Department Operations Center.

Brett holds a Masters in National Security Strategy from the National War College, a Masters in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.  He is the recipient of several State Department Superior Honor Awards.  He speaks Spanish and Polish.
