Brian Lessenberry

Brian Lessenberry joined the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) as the first Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Global Analysis in July 2023.

A career Senior Executive Service officer, Mr. Lessenberry has held key leadership roles in the U.S. Intelligence Community. He most recently served as Deputy Associate Director of Operations at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. He previously served as the National Intelligence Officer for Weapons of Mass Destruction, as a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and as a Director of National Intelligence Fellow assigned to the National Security Council.

Mr. Lessenberry is the recipient of the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award, the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, and the NGA Distinguished Civilian Service Medal among other awards. A graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, he holds a master’s degree with honors in international relations from the University of Chicago.
