Gonzalo Oscar Suarez
Gonzalo Suarez is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Security, in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN). In this capacity he oversees the bureau’s counterproliferation efforts in the areas of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and dual-use technologies. This includes interdictions, sanctions, export controls, and other related activities. Before assuming the role of DAS, Mr. Suarez was Acting DAS for International Security from 2018-2022 and previously was ISN’s Director of Strategic Communications and Outreach, where he was responsible for the bureau’s public affairs and congressional activities. From 2014-2015 Mr. Suarez served as Chief of Staff for the ISN bureau. Mr. Suarez worked in the private sector prior to joining the State Department in 2008. Mr. Suarez earned a B.A. in Political Science from Florida International University and a M.A.L.D from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
