Regina Faranda

Regina Faranda began her tenure as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Analysis and Production on May 23, 2022.  A career member of the Senior Executive Service, she was most recently the Director of INR’s Office of Opinion Research. Faranda previously served as Deputy Director of that office, Chief of the Europe and Eurasia Division for opinion research, and social research analyst for Russia and Ukraine. She was named one of the State Department’s “Analysts of the Year” in 2010 for her support to senior policymakers. Faranda entered into U.S. government service as a Presidential Management Fellow after completing her degree at Georgetown. Throughout her tenure at State, Faranda has been dedicated to informing U.S. policy through quantitative social research and to giving people around the world a seat at the U.S. policy table. Her own research interests have included nationalism and xenophobia in the former Soviet Union, religiosity in Central Asia, and the intersection of social and political identities globally. Faranda holds a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, a master’s degree in Russian and East European Studies from Georgetown, studied Ukrainian at Harvard, and has studied survey methods at the University of Maryland and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
