Shawn Powers
Shawn Powers is the Director for Strategic Planning and Communications in the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy. Previously, he served at the U.S. Agency for Global Media’s (USAGM) Chief Strategy Officer. Powers has a Ph.D. from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California (USC), and from 2016-2018, he served as the Executive Director of the United States Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy at the State Department. Previously, Powers was a tenured professor at Georgia State University, where he established and led its Center for Global Information Studies, and is currently an adjunct professor-practitioner at Syracuse University.
