Caribbean Basin Security Initiative: St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Vincent and the Grenadines benefits directly from CBSI programs, including:

• Training, technical assistance, and equipment to improve counternarcotics efforts and maritime interdiction capability; including logistical and maintenance support training;
• Training, advisory support, and equipment for law enforcement agencies, often in coordination with the Regional Security System (RSS) and U.S. interagency partners;
• Providing professional development and technical training opportunities to St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ security forces;
• Mentoring and technical assistance to implement a modern criminal code, national prosecution service, code of conduct for prosecutors, and witness charter;
• Promoting coordination at the working level among the justice sector and institutions in order to harmonize policies, procedures, and systems across the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States as well as Suriname, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago;
• Mentoring and support from a financial crimes advisor to implement civil asset forfeiture and build investigative and prosecutorial capacity;
• Increasing educational opportunities for at-risk youth through strengthening second-chance education programs;
• Strengthening the juvenile justice system by supporting reform of the legal framework, building capacity within the justice sector, promoting the use of diversion and alternative sentencing options, and modernizing detention processes to create a focus on rehabilitation of youth in conflict with the law;
• Training and equipment for corrections management to include identifying and mitigating security threat groups, contraband detection, and non-lethal emergency response techniques, as well as sentence management hardware and software.
• Mentoring, training and advising on maritime maintenance from the Technical Assistance Field Team to improve the operational readiness of their patrol boat fleet, to include equipment and software to ensure maintenance issues are being tracked.
• Improved maritime domain awareness through the participation in the Cooperative Situational Information Integration Initiative that provides regional air and maritime tracks for operations.
• Ongoing training and equipment for the maritime service to ensure U.S. provided vessels are maintained.
