Carol Morgan School (CMS) is a private, coeducational school, which offers an educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises two semesters that begin in mid-August and finish in early June. The academic year consists of at least 180 teaching days.

Organization: The school is governed by a 13-member board of directors, eight of whom are elected for two-year terms by the Association of Carol Morgan School parents. Of these members, there is one ex-officio, non-voting member appointed by the U.S. Ambassador and three additional non-voting members appointed by the board, including representation of the PTO and Alumni Association. Membership in the association is automatically conferred on parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The school is tax-exempt in the Dominican Republic.

Curriculum: The curriculum is that of a U.S. college-preparatory private school with instruction in English. There is no religious instruction. Over 98% of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Dominican Republic. The school offers limited services for students with mild learning needs, for English Language Learner (ELL) needs at the elementary and middle school levels, and enrichment for academically talented students including the Advanced Placement program. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, Carol Morgan has 280 total staff including 138 teachers, 46 of whom are U.S. citizens, 67 host-country nationals, and 25 third-country nationals. Our faculty and staff represent several other nationalities including, Canadian, Russian, Brazilian, Mexican, Colombian, and Spanish. All teaching faculty maintain a teaching certificate/credential from the USA or from their country of origin.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 1,046. Of the total, 305 are U.S. citizens, 497 were host-country nationals, and 244 are third-country nationals.

Facilities: CMS facilities are located on a 15-acre campus in a residential area on the west side of Santo Domingo. The school campus has 78 classrooms, two libraries, seven computer labs with 400 computers and a tech center, eight science labs, three innovation labs, counselor’s offices or suites, classrooms for the Optimal Learning Program, robotics and innovation labs, and fine arts facilities including: an art pavilion with five classrooms for elementary, middle, and high school art; acoustic insulated music double studios and seven practice rooms for band and choir; and a “Black Box Theater” for drama and small theatrical performances. All classrooms and offices are air-conditioned. Sports facilities are a part of CMS multipurpose center that includes an indoor gymnasium with locker rooms; a state of the art theater area for school-wide assemblies, performances, and events; a large covered outdoor court; and fields for soccer, baseball, ultimate Frisbee, etc. The school has a cafeteria facility capable of serving 350 people at a time. The school also has a small outdoor amphitheater and a Dominican Bohio (gazebo) for gatherings and small events. Additionally, the school has separate administrative offices, maintenance and plant operation offices, and a warehouse and community recycle facility. The school has parking capacity for over 200 vehicles including covered parking for 75 vehicles.

Finances: Approximately 95% of the school’s income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are: PK: $5,799; K:$8,406; grade 1:$12,211 ; grade 2- 3: $13,884; grades 4-5:$15,710; grades 6-8:$16,893; grades 9-11: $19,306; and grade 12: $21,339. A one-time entrance fee per student is charged as follows: PK: $5,500; Kinder: $6,500; grades 1-2: $6,500; grades 3-5: $8,750; grades 6-8: $9,850; and grades 9-12: $10,995. There is also a one-time capital levy fee of $6,300 for new families at CMS. All tuition and fees are payable in U.S. dollars or Dominican pesos. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
