The Casablanca American School, founded in 1973, is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers a U.S. and International Baccalaureate-oriented education from nursery (three-year-old class) through grade 12. CAS is the first full IB-DP school in North Africa and has been offering the IB-DP diploma for 37 years. The school year is divided into three trimesters that extend from late August through mid-June

Organization: The school is governed by a seven-member board of directors. The board is responsible to the Casablanca American School Association, which is composed of all CAS parents, designated administrators and full-time contractual teachers.

Curriculum:  The curriculum is that of U.S. and international private university-preparatory schools, with guidance from the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) standards, a leading framework for curriculum consistency across American international schools. CAS is committed to continuous improvement and development through regular participation in the AERO Summer Institutes, generously funded by the Department of State, ensuring that our practices are aligned with the highest educational standards. Instruction is in English. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Full Diploma Program is offered in grades 11 and 12. Specialist subjects include art, computer science, design technology, theater, music, and physical education. French and Arabic, native and non-native, are mandatory second languages in grades 2-8. Spanish language is introduced from the 9th grade, enriching our language offerings. After-school sports, such as track and swimming, are conducted at local facilities; and there are tournament schedules organized for soccer, volleyball, and basketball with neighboring schools and overseas international schools. CAS upper school students participate in Model United Nations, the National Honor Society, and People to People community service projects. The school has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges since 1993.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, CAS has 126 total staff including 91 teachers, 36 of whom are U.S. citizens, 51 host-country nationals, and 21 third-country nationals from France, Canada, Romania, Turkey, UK, India, Italy, Mexico, Slovakia, Salvador, Iraq, and Ireland. Our teaching staff credentials are as follows: master’s degree- 35, and bachelor’s degree- 60.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 683 (PreK-grade 5: 334; grades 6-8: 157; grades 9-12: 192). Of the total, 110 are U.S. citizens, 327 host-country nationals, and 246 are third-country nationals.

Facilities:  The physical plant, built in 1989 with an extension completed in 2002, is approximately 11,800+ square meter covered and is situated on a 20,000 square meter parcel of land in a residential area nine kilometers from the city center. The facility includes a preschool with six classrooms and three administration wings that consists of the director’s office including a conference room, the registrar’s office, the human resources office, communication and curriculum office, the college counselor’s office, and a two-level upper school library. During the summer of 2023, the school remodeled its entrance and constructed a reception/admissions building, a finance building and remodeled its pre-school building, upper school school library and is in the process of making alterations to its U.S. building. The upper school building consists of 27 classrooms; a multipurpose room; an art studio; a science-technology laboratory; a principal’s office; a counselor’s office; a faculty lounge; and chemistry, physics, and biology laboratories. The lower school building consists of 20 classrooms, two art studios, a science-technology laboratory, a lower school library, two music/performance rooms, the Anne-Healy Osman Theater with 350 seats, language support offices, the lower school principal’s office, and a Moroccan salon. Facilities also include a gymnasium, an outdoor multi-use hard court, a cafeteria, an infirmary, a FIFA soccer field, a multi-use field, a basketball court, and preschool and lower school playgrounds. During the summer of 2016, major renovations to the school cafeteria and gym added more functional space for dining and sports. Cameras all around the school have been installed for more security. In the summer of 2017, new front and rear gates were added for additional safety. The school is undertaking an ongoing project to upgrade its facilities to improve safety, security, and maximize learning areas.

Finances:  In the 2023-2024 school year, about 98% of the school’s income derives from tuition, admissions, and registration fees. Annual tuition rates for corporate are as follows: nursery: $9,877, kinder: $9,877, pre1-grade 5: $14,806, grades 6-8: $17,273, grades 9 -12: 17,890. The school also charges a one-time admission fee of $5,074 for the first child, $4,959 for the 2nd, $3,044 for the third (A one time fee for continuously enrolled CAS students), an application examination fee of $101 payable upon submission of each new application, a capital/levy building fee of $507, a registration fee of $101, a sports fee of actual cost, a PTC (Parent-Teacher Committee) fee of $20 per child. These fees are payable in Moroccan dirhams. (All fees quoted in U.S. dollars at an exchange rate of $1=9.8541 MAD which is subject to change).
