Bogota, Colombia: Colegio Nueva Granada: 2023-2024 Fact Sheet

Colegio Nueva Granada (CNG) is a private, co-educational, bilingual, bicultural day school founded in 1938. All classes are taught in English except Colombian social studies and Spanish language. The school year begins in early August and ends in mid-June.

Organization: The school is governed by an eight-member board of directors, seven of whom are elected by the general assembly composed of all CNG parents who have children enrolled in the school. The board members are elected for a two-year term, and they appoint the school director. The board also includes an appointed member from the U.S. Embassy.

Curriculum: CNG provides a U.S. college-preparatory curriculum with over 20 Honors/Pre-AP classes and 31 Advanced Placement courses. All academic instruction occurs in English. A dual program prepares students for both the U.S. High School Diploma and the Colombian Bachillerato Diploma. The school is accredited by the stateside accrediting agency, Cognia/AdvancED, and by the Colombian Ministry of Education. Nearly 99% of graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States, Colombia, and Europe.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, CNG has 503 total staff including 395 teachers, 256 of whom are U.S. citizens, 203 host-country nationals, and 29 including Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, China, Spain, Jamaica, United Kingdom, Ukraine, New Zealand, and Venezuela. All teaching faculty maintain a teaching certificate/credential e.g., Diploma of Teaching and/or registered teacher certificate from their countries of origin.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 1,658. Of the total, 256 were U.S. citizens, 764 were host-country nationals, and 155 were third-country nationals. There are 49 different nationalities represented in total student enrollment.

Facilities: Facilities include a building for pre-Kindergarten, two buildings for kindergarten through grade 5, separate buildings for middle and high school classrooms and laboratories, an elementary instructional materials center, a primary school library, a secondary school library, 11 laboratories (seven high school and four middle school), seven instructional technology labs, two gymnasiums, a theater, three soccer fields, playground areas, a learning center for children with learning disabilities, a teacher cafeteria, a student cafeteria, a photography lab, two classrooms for teaching Mandarin-Chinese, three Maker Spaces, a professional recording studio, and a high-tech Global Learning Studio.
