Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman held a virtual meeting with Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi to discuss the U.S.-Tunisian bilateral relationship. They discussed promoting democracy, protecting human rights, addressing economic challenges, and working together to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Deputy Secretary Sherman also met virtually with women leaders from Tunisian civil society and spoke with Tunisian media professionals. In her meetings, Deputy Secretary Sherman reiterated the United States’ unwavering support to the Tunisian government and the Tunisian people at a crucial time in the country’s democratic transition 10 years after the revolution. The United States views Tunisia as a partner of choice, grounded in our shared commitment to democratic values, and to promoting regional security.
