Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with the Holy See’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Parolin today in Vatican City. Deputy Secretary Sherman thanked Cardinal Parolin for the Holy See’s work to ensure food security and for the Pope’s recent statements in support of the people of Ukraine. They discussed shared concerns over insecurity and the cholera outbreak in Haiti, concern for the human rights situation in Iran, ongoing developments in Venezuela, the situation in Lebanon, relations with the People’s Republic of China as well as Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine. Deputy Secretary Sherman and Cardinal Parolin underscored the strong bilateral partnership between the United States and Holy See and the shared desire for peace and security around the world.
