The Deputy Secretary praised Mauritius as a model for the region on economic development and emphasized the critical importance of our shared democratic values. The Deputy Secretary and Prime Minister then participated in the groundbreaking for a new $300 million U.S. embassy compound, which Deputy Secretary Verma emphasized demonstrates the importance that the United States ascribes to its growing bilateral relationship with Mauritius.
