CANDIDATE:     Jeffrey Ross Gunter

Jeffrey Ross Gunter, MD, is a health care executive, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. He founded and currently directs Jeffrey Ross Gunter, MD, Inc., a pioneering corporation providing rural community dermatological health care to the Western United States, including to US military personnel and their families.  Dr. Gunter was also a Clinical Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA, and Chief Resident of Dermatology at the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. He has demonstrated the ability to lead large medical organizations, partner successfully with politicians, university administrators and civil society advocates, and to mentor and build strong teams working with employees and collaborators with diverse backgrounds. These skills, coupled with his achievements in spearheading philanthropic programs with significant community impact, all serve to make him well qualified to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Iceland.

As chief resident and a clinical professor, Dr. Gunter oversaw the curriculum and education for scores of physicians and medical students at USC.  In his role as  Chairman of the “Ambassadors for Stem Cell Research” at the Keck School he co-founded, with financial support from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, a stem cell educational program that provided educational and research opportunities to underserved and economically challenged students in low-income communities in Los Angeles.   In addition, Dr. Gunter has led and supported other charitable organizations working on health care, holocaust remembrance, military support, world affairs, and policy exposure for high school and inner city youth.

Dr. Gunter graduated and received his A.B. in Psychology from U.C. Berkeley in 1983, and his M.D. degree from the USC School of Medicine in 1987. He speaks Spanish, French and Dutch.  Dr. Gunter was recipient of the Ronald Reagan Leadership Award, from the Republican Jewish Coalition, Washington, D.C.
