IPR Resources – Stopfakes.gov

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Stopfakes.gov  site is a great resource for Small and Medium-Size Businesses (SMEs) looking into whether their business requires IP protection while abroad. Stopfakes.gov provides a free online course  on the different types of IPR, the legal protections available to each of them, and the process of how to acquire and protect your own IPR.

Stopfakes.gov also provides country specific  and industry specific  resources on IPR to help businesses become familiar with the laws and regulations of the country or industry in which they plan to do business.

Stakeholders Actively Engaged in Intellectual Property Issues

The Intellectual Property Owners Association  corporate membership is an example of the diversity of industries impacted by intellectual property issues.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce  in Washington, DC, and local U.S. chambers of commerce chapters throughout the world, as well as International Chambers of Commerce  are actively engaged in representing member’s IPR interests and often engage with government leaders to promote stronger IP rights and protections.

The National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center  (IPR Center) in Crystal City, Virginia, is at the forefront of the United States Government’s response to global intellectual property (IP) theft and enforcement of its international trade laws to protect the public’s health and safety and to stop predatory and unfair trade practices that threaten the global economy. It conducts special investigations, conducts interdictions to stop fake goods  in supply chains, and provides domestic and international law enforcement training.
