Bangkok, Thailand: International School Bangkok: 2023-2024 Fact Sheet

International School Bangkok (ISB) was the first international school in Thailand. Founded in 1951, the school initially opened on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy. ISB is an independent, coeducational, inclusive, nonprofit day school offering an educational program for children ages 3-18 (PK – grade12). The school year extends from approximately mid-August to early June and is divided into two semesters. A summer program is also offered.                                              

Organization: ISB’s Board of Trustees consists of 11 elected persons and up to six appointed persons. The school encourages and benefits from active parent participation.

Curriculum: ISB is a learning-focused international school with a strong U.S. educational philosophy and curriculum, broadened and enriched with best practices from other nations. ISB offers a balanced program with a focus on the development of the whole student. ISB provides students with high standards of academic instruction, opportunities for service to others, and a well-rounded program of activities directed toward the development of their skills, talents, and self-confidence for lifelong learning. Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma and may also elect to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program. AP courses are also offered to broaden students’ access to more rigorous coursework. At ISB, we provide support for a managed number of students with mild, moderate, and intensive learning needs, as well as for those who benefit from enrichment and challenge opportunities. Students with moderate and intensive needs may require a modified program and as such, are on a different graduation pathway that does not meet the requirements of the standard diploma. Students who graduate from ISB under these conditions will receive a modified diploma that recognizes their achievement as outlined in their Individual Education Plan. We are able to meet the needs of most students in the regular classroom with differentiated instruction through accommodations and consultation. For students who require additional student services, ISB offers various forms of targeted instruction outside the mainstream classrooms.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, ISB has 609 total staff including 198 teachers, 101 of whom are U.S. citizens, 9 host-country nationals, and 88 third-country nationals. Our faculty represent 20 different nationalities, including Canadian, British, French, Japanese, Australian, New Zealand and more. All teaching faculty maintain a teaching certification or credential and are licensed in Thailand.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 1,800. Of the total, there were 468 U.S. citizens, 550 host-country nationals, and 782 third-country nationals.

Facilities: Located just outside the center of Bangkok, the 37-acre campus is situated in a gated, family-oriented community where children can walk or ride their bikes to school. The school offers state-of-the-art facilities for academics, athletics, fine and performing arts, and other programs to support a high-quality educational experience. ISB also has a 15-acre Environmental Wilderness Campus in Petchburi province. The school also has a newly equipped Golf Center with latest technologies for students.

Finances:  Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK: $16,890 (U.S. Government families receive a 75% discount on Pre-K tuition), K-grade 5: $25,991; grades 6-8: $29,158; and grades 9-12: $30,670. The intensive needs program is additional U.S. $27,104 on top of tuition fees. A one-time registration fee per student of approximately $7,417 is also charged.
