Santiago, Chile: International School Nido De Aguilas: 2023-2024 Fact Sheet

The International School Nido de Aguilas, founded in 1934, is a private, international, coeducational, non-sectarian, non-profit day school, rooted in the best traditions of Chilean and North American education. Today, Nido serves over 1500 students from more than 40 countries and offers a comprehensive liberal arts college preparatory educational program from Early Years (age three) through Grade 12. The academic year has two semesters: the first from late July to mid-December and the second from mid-February to mid-June. The vacation periods are mid-December through mid-February and end of June through the end of July.

Organization: The school is governed by a board of directors consisting of a minimum of nine members and a maximum of 13, elected for three-year terms. Nido is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) as well as the Chilean Ministry of Education.

Curriculum: Nido offers three programs: the Nido Diploma (North American), the Chilean National Plan Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (for 11th and 12th grades). Nido students can graduate with one, two or all three of these diplomas. Nido is divided into four divisions: the early years school (PK-K1), the elementary school (K2-5), the middle school (6-8), and the high school (9-12). Nido offers a wide range of elective courses in the arts, design and technology, social sciences, and health, wellbeing and fitness. All students participate in outdoor education and service learning, with a focus on leadership skills and citizenship through meaningful and impactful experiences.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, Nido has 368 total staff including 258 teachers, 92 of whom are U.S. citizens, 137 host-country nationals, and 29 third-country nationals. Our faculty and staff represent 20 nationalities, including Chile, United States, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, France, India, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa, Switzerland, UK, and Venezuela.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 1,508 (PK-K1: 88; K2-G5: 587; G6-8: 371; G9-12: 462; with 43 nationalities represented). Of the total, 241 were U.S. citizens, 754 were host-country nationals, and 513 were third-country nationals.

Admissions: Families must contact the admissions office at admissions@nido.cl or go online to www.nido.cl, to begin the admissions process. Families should contact admissions as soon as possible, as the school often has waitlists for many grades.

Facilities: The school is situated in one of the newest and most popular housing areas in Santiago and is the residential location of choice for many Nido families. The Early Years School (Pre-Kinder to Kinder 1), the Elementary School (Kinder 2 to Grade 5), the Middle School (Grades 6 to 8), and the High School (Grades 9 to 12) programs are housed in separate facilities, and each has its own designated staff including principals, teachers, counselors, and support staff. In addition to classrooms, the campus facilities include two multi-purpose halls, a modern library/media center, science laboratories, computer labs, a theater/fine arts center (including a 735-seat theater, instrumental music rooms, vocal music rooms, art rooms, and dance studio), three MakerLabs, counseling and college admissions offices, a cafeteria and several food trucks, a nursing/first aid center, several playground areas, a double-size gymnasium, weight training and fitness facility, two sports fields, an all-weather track, an outdoor education center, and an indoor aquatics center.

Finances: Annual tuition rates for the 2023-2024 school year are as follows: PK-KI: $11,400; K2-grade 12: $20,900 plus an annual registration fee of $1,500 for EYS, ES, and MS students and $1,900 for HS students. There is also a one-time capital incorporation fee per student of approximately $14,700 upon enrollment. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars and may vary depending on exchange rate).
