The 2023-2024 school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 28 through December 15 and from January 8 through June 20.

Organization: Members elected by ISB’s Association as well as members appointed by the U. S. Ambassador and by the ISB Board of Trustees govern the school. The board of trustees consists of no less than seven voting members and no more than 10. The U.S. Ambassador appoints three members, one of whom is the treasurer. A minimum of two and a maximum of five members are elected from the membership. Elections are managed in an effort to reach the maximum of five elected members. The board may choose to appoint up to two additional members. At least one member of the board, either elected or appointed, must be a Serbian citizen. The board of trustees appoints the director. Membership in the association is automatically conferred upon the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The school is incorporated and has U.S. tax-exempt status.

Curriculum: The curriculum is similar to that of U.S. general academic, high-quality public schools. In addition, ISB is an IBO World School, authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PK-grade 5), Middle Years Program (grades 6-10), and the Diploma Program (grades 11-12). ISB is a college preparatory school that offers a rich curriculum designed to stimulate the minds of children of all ages; it also serves students with mild learning disabilities. For a complete view of the school’s curriculum, prospective parents and students can check the school’s website. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is the Council of International Schools member school.

Our faculty and staff represent 15 nationalities, including UK, Canada, France, Greece, South Africa, Kenya, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, etc. All teaching faculty maintain a teaching certificate/credential.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 473 (PreK-grade 5: 187; grades 6-8: and grades 6-12: 286). Of the total, 82 are U.S. citizens, 118 are host-country nationals, and 273 are third-country nationals. ISB has 50 nationalities represented in the student body.

Facilities: The primary school and secondary school campuses are in close proximity of one another and consist of a combination of new, purpose-built facilities and remodeled villas with adjacent buildings. The campuses are located in a quiet, residential area of Belgrade. Each campus has a library with a total of 15,915 volumes. ISB has adopted a Buy Your Own Laptop program at our high school and a 1 to 1 iPad program at the middle school. The main idea is to move further into the digital learning age by facilitating the safe and productive use of electronic devices through the empowerment of students taking a more active ownership of their own learning with their own laptops. Our primary school offers 1 to 1 iPad program to grades 2 and 5 and 1 to 2 laptops and iPads for all other grade levels. There are purpose-built science laboratories at the middle school and high school, as well as a gymnasium and a Performing Arts Center.
