Curaçao: International School of Curaçao: 2023-2024 Fact Sheet

The International School of Curaçao (ISC) is a K-12, accredited, private, nonprofit, coeducational day school that provides instruction in English. ISC was founded in 1968 and offers a rigorous academic program in order to prepare students who plan to pursue higher learning at colleges and universities around the world. The school year extends from mid-August to mid-June.

Organization: The school is governed by a nine-member board of directors and is recognized by the local government of Curaçao, a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. 

Curriculum: ISC offers a combination of international and U.S. curricula to serve our diverse and globally mobile population. Teachers use proven best practices, research-based strategies, and U.S. educational resources and textbooks. The language of instruction is English. Academic areas include English, mathematics, social studies, science, information technology, art, music, physical education, and English-as-a-Second-Language. Dutch and Spanish languages are also taught at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels to native and non-natives speakers. ISC offers Advanced Placement courses in Spanish language and literature, and the International Baccalaureate diploma program in high school. An after-school activities program provides opportunities for students to explore other interests. ISC is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, ICS has 46 total staff including 37 teachers, 11 of whom are U.S. citizens, 20 host-country nationals, and 5 third-country nationals including U.S., Dutch, Colombian, Venezuelan, U.K. Trinidad.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 215. Of the total, 23 are U.S. citizens, 132 are host-country nationals, and 60 are third-country nationals.

Facilities: ISC has a typical Caribbean architecture with one-story buildings and open spaces. The buildings on the west accommodate the kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools. The kindergarten and two pre-kindergarten rooms are in one building and have their own playground and bathrooms. The elementary and middle schools consist of a total of 28 rooms which include a science lab, two music rooms, two ESL rooms, three learning resource rooms, and an art room. The library has a kindergarten/elementary section separate from the main library. A modern computer room, which is in the library building, also forms part of the classroom complex on the west side of campus. The play areas for the elementary and middle schools are separate and include a basketball court. The high school is on the east side of the street that separates both campuses and consists of 15 rooms, which includes two science labs, an art room, and a computer lab. The most recent contemporary wing includes five classrooms, a computer lab, a faculty room, and toilet facilities. To this modern wing, the school incorporated the offices of their IB coordinator and high school guidance counselor. Their gym/auditorium includes a court for various sports and a stage and is equipped with acoustic panels for the school band/orchestra performances.

Finances: In the 2023-2024 school year, about 99% of the school’s income derives from tuition and fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: K4: $8,165, K5 to Grade 5: $14,477, Grades 6-12: $18,081 (All fees quoted in U.S. dollars.)
