CANDIDATE: Alan M. Leventhal

Alan Leventhal has been the Chairman and CEO of Beacon Capital Partners since he founded it in 1998. Prior to that, he was a General Partner, and then President and CEO, of Beacon Properties Corporation. Today, Beacon Capital Partners is one of the leading owners and managers of office properties in the United States. It is home to leading innovative and growth companies from start-ups to large technology companies and major professional service and healthcare firms, and its projects have been transformational to the urban environment.

Mr. Leventhal’s commitment to leading change is reflected in his public service roles as well. He was Board Chair of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and still serves on the Executive Committee. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition, he is a Life Trustee of Northwestern University and was a Trustee and Board Chair of Boston University as well. He has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to lead large and complex organizations successfully and to develop partnerships that bring together leaders in government, the private sector and academia. These skills, coupled with his decades-long commitment to engage and empower organizations that are addressing some of humanity’s most urgent global challenges, make him a well-qualified candidate to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark.

Mr. Leventhal also serves as the Board Chair of the Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library and on the Board Executive Committee of A Better City. He earned his B.A. from Northwestern University and his M.B.A. from Dartmouth College.
