Montenegro Statehood Day

On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Montenegro as you celebrate your Statehood Day.

This year, we are encouraged by Montenegro’s national elections and its democratic transition of power.  We support all those who seek to accelerate their country’s EU accession as Montenegro takes its rightful place as a full member of the European community, strengthening the country’s unity and resilience.  A tolerant, inclusive, and democratic Montenegro firmly rooted in the Euro-Atlantic community will lead to a more prosperous and secure future for all citizens.

As NATO Allies, our countries have made great strides in our defense and security relationship.  Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine is a grim reminder that we must all be diligent in defending our freedom, which the United States is proud to do alongside NATO Ally Montenegro.  I look forward to ensuring that our deep friendship continues to grow stronger in the year ahead.
