On November 30, the United States and Peru held meetings of the Environmental Affairs Council (EAC) and Sub-Committee on Forest Sector Governance (Sub-Committee) under the Environment Chapter of the United States-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA), and of the Environmental Cooperation Commission (ECC) under the United States-Peru Environmental Cooperation Agreement (ECA).

The EAC reviewed progress implementing the Environment Chapter of the TPA.  The United States and Peru discussed their respective efforts to strengthen environmental protection, address the climate crisis, transition to a more circular economy, and combat plastic pollution.

The Sub-Committee reviewed implementation of the TPA Annex on Forest Sector Governance and engaged in discussion on efforts to stem illegal logging and illegal trade in wildlife as well as on current initiatives to improve forest governance and the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.

The ECC reviewed implementation of the ECA, discussed progress on strengthening environmental governance, sustainable forest management, and increased citizen engagement in environmental decision-making completed since the last meeting in 2018; reviewed three presentations from the U.S. government interagency; and discussed topics to include in a forthcoming 2023-2026 Environmental Cooperation Work Program.
