The QSI International School of Chengdu is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten (three and four years old) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises five quintiles extending from mid-August to mid-June. A very active parent support group works with the administration and teachers to provide volunteers and special activities throughout the year.

Organization: The school is governed by a board of directors consisting of three to seven members who are selected and appointed by a committee consisting of the founders of Quality Schools International and at least one other member of the board of directors of Quality Schools International. An advisory board of six to 10 parents of students living in Chengdu assists the school in its operation. The school operates with the approval of the Chinese government.

Curriculum: The school offers a performance-based/mastery learning approach to education with a curriculum that is based on U.S. Common Core Standards. Instruction takes advantage of small class sizes and the diverse backgrounds of the students and staff. Instruction is in English with Chinese, French, and German being offered as foreign and native languages. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and a full range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses on-site or online, either through Quality Virtual Schools (QVS) or Florida Virtual School (FLVS). QSI Chengdu is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, a U.S.-based accrediting organization.

Faculty: In the 2023-2024 school year, QSI Chengdu has 65 total staff including 40 teachers, 11 of whom are U.S. citizens, 17 host-country nationals, and 12 third-country nationals. Our faculty and staff represent 9 nationalities, including UK, Ireland, Germany, Cameroon, South Africa, Singapore, and Serbia. All teaching faculty maintain teaching certification from their home country or from the United States.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 200. Of this total, 69 are U.S. citizens, 0 are host-country citizens, and 139 are third-country nationals.

Facilities: The school occupies two buildings just off the Third Ring Road in southern Chengdu. Facilities include 51 classrooms with computers and smartboards, three computer laboratories, over 50 portable laptops, a library with 20,000 volumes, three science laboratories, two music rooms, two multipurpose rooms, an auditorium, two art studios, two full-size basketball/volleyball courts (one indoor, one outdoor), a seven-on-seven sized turf soccer field, an outdoor playground area with rubberized surface and grass areas, and two cafeterias.

Finances: Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK: $12,400; and K-12: $30,000. An annual capital fund fee of $1,600 per student is required. There is a one-time registration fee of $300. The bus fee is $2,100 per year. Lunch fees are $3.50-$4.50 per meal. Meals are prepared on-site by a contracted food service provider. By law, all fees are payable in RMB to the school’s local bank account. U.S. government dependents may pay in U.S. dollars to a U.S. bank.
