Logo for Stockholm International School

Stockholm International School is the only school in Stockholm to offer a truly international education from preschool-grade 12. It draws its students from the business, diplomatic and research community for whom Stockholm is an international hub. Average student tenure is around three years, though many students stay longer and some are with us for only a few months. Swedish nationals comprise some 30% of the student body and most of these students have been in other international schools around the world. There is no boarding facility and all students travel to school daily, some by foot or bicycle, many by bus and train and a proportion are brought by car or in taxis organized and pooled by the diplomatic community.

Organization: The school is governed by a board of trustees and is a non-profit foundation. The board of trustees is a self-perpetuating board with channels of communication with the various stakeholders. The school is composed of an early years/kindergarten, a primary section, a middle school section and an upper school section. The school’s management consists of a senior leadership team with a director, principals of sections, dean of students, head of learning, business manager, and advancement director as well as an educational leadership team with the IBDP, IBMYP and IBPYP coordinators.

Curriculum: Our curriculum is deeply rooted in the International Baccalaureate framework. The IB Primary Years Program (PYP) is implemented from the early years (preschool) to grade 5 (primary), while the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is adopted in grades 6-10. The final two years of high school, grades 11-12, are structured around the IB Diploma Program (DP). Importantly, our school is accredited and authorized to offer these programs by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Middle States Association(MSA), and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

Faculty and Staff: In the 2023-2024 school year, Stockholm International School has 187 total staff including 142 teachers, 24 of whom are U.S. citizens, 26 host-country nationals, and 92 third-country nationals. Our faculty and staff represent 37 nationalities, including American, Swedish, British and Irish, Canadian, Australian/New Zealander, Indian, etc.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment is 818 (preschool-grade 5: 330; grades 6-9: 296; and grades 10-12: 192). Of the total, 130 are U.S. citizens,  233 are host-country nationals, and 455 third-country nationals.
