Under Secretary Jenkins’ Official Statement on the Passing of Michael Krepon

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to the family of Michael Krepon, who passed away this week on July 16, 2022.

A tireless advocate for peace and security, Michael was a leading voice in arms control and nuclear nonproliferation. He was a bridge builder for policy makers, academia, and civil society, and every day he worked for better policy outcomes. He was an advocate for many professionals working to make the world safer and he served as a mentor for many, nurturing the next generations of leaders in nonproliferation. Many in the State Department involved with issues of arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament have known him, worked with him, and valued his contributions. We mourn his loss.

He has left behind an incredible legacy rooted in public service and a vision of a world free of weapons of mass destruction, and his legacy lives through the ongoing work of leaders working to ensure peace and security for all.
