This action, the sixth round of sanctions targeting the network of Iran-based, IRGC-QF-backed Houthi financial facilitator Sa’id al-Jamal since December 2023, represents yet another step in a concerted campaign to disrupt IRGC-QF finances and its support to terrorist groups such as the Houthis. We call on the international maritime community to take additional steps to prevent the abuse of global energy markets by terrorist groups like the IRGC-QF, the Houthis, and Hizballah. We will continue to use the tools at our disposal to target those who ship illicit cargo to benefit terrorist groups. The Department of the Treasury designations were taken pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended. For more information on today’s action, see Treasury’s press release.
