Our Mission

The Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice (SRREJ) advances the human rights of members of marginalized racial, ethnic, and Indigenous communities, including people of African descent, and builds global partnerships to combat systemic racism, discrimination, and xenophobia globally. In June 2022, Desirée Cormier Smith was appointed as the State Department’s first-ever Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice.
