U.S.-Chad Relations

The U.S. established diplomatic relations with Chad in 1960, following its independence from France. Chad is emerging from half a century of regional conflict and internal turmoil, and is pursuing better governance and development. U.S. Assistance to Chad

The U.S. provides humanitarian assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons throughout Chad; encourages Chadian commitment to regional stability and security; promotes human rights and the rule of law; supports responsible public revenue management; and maintains U.S.-Chadian cooperation on regional and international counter-terrorism initiatives. Bilateral Economic Relations

Chad is eligible for preferential trade benefits under the African Growth and Opportunity Act. Chad’s exports to the U.S. are dominated by oil, while imports from the U.S. include machinery, plastics, and cereals. The U.S. does not have an investment treaty or a bilateral tax agreement with Chad.

The Integrated Country Strategy is the four-year strategy articulating U.S. priorities in a given country. The Chief of Mission leads the strategy.

The Fiscal Transparency Report analyzes government transparency and identifies needed changes to improve public spending accountability.

The U.S. delivers COVID vaccines to Chad.

COVID-19 Vaccine Deliveries

Since September, 2021 the United States has donated 552,890 safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine doses with the people of Chad. This includes 382,590 Pfizer and 170,300 J&J doses. Of the 552,890 vaccine doses, 100% were donated in partnership with COVAX.

The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
