Global COVID-19 Summit

On September 22, 2021, President Biden hosted the ‘Global COVID-19 Summit: Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better’ on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.

This virtual event convened heads of state, heads of government, and heads of international organizations, as well as leaders of civil society, NGOs, philanthropists, and industry from across the globe around a common set of targets and actions to end the pandemic. Participants also discussed ways to strengthen the global health security architecture to better prepare for future biological threats.

The Summit began a discussion on a set of ambitious targets needed to end the COVID-19 pandemic as well as prevent, detect, and respond to future infectious disease outbreaks.

  1. Vaccinate the World by enhancing equitable access to vaccines and getting shots in arms.
  2. Save Lives Now by solving the oxygen crisis and making tests, therapeutics, and PPE more available.
  3. Build Back Better by establishing a sustainable health security financing mechanism and global leadership for emerging threats.
  4. Calling the World to Account by aligning around targets, tracking progress, and supporting one another in fulfilling our commitments.
