The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is participating in events as part of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During the UNGA High-Level Week (September 20-26, 2022), PEPFAR will engage in discussions about the state of the global HIV/AIDS response, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic; dedicated efforts to address core HIV/AIDS-related comorbidities, including cervical cancer for women living with HIV/AIDS; the critical role of faith communities in supporting children and adolescents living with and affected by HIV/AIDS; and the vital contributions of resilient and responsive health systems and health care workforces to HIV progress and broader pandemic preparedness and response.

Along the sidelines of UNGA in New York, the U.S. is hosting the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment Conference  September 18-21. The Global Fund raises and invests money in three-year cycles known as Replenishments. The Global Fund aims to raise at least $18B during this year’s pledging conference to strengthen health systems and help low- and middle-income countries get back on track to end HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as public health threats by 2030. The success of the Replenishment helps to advance U.S. foreign policy interests in the area of health equity and global health security.
